Q.
So what's Health & Safety all about?
A.
It's about taking action to prevent injuries and harm to the health
of employees, the self employed and members of the public caused
by work activities. It is also about providing a safe and satisfactory
workplace.
Q.
Why do I need to implement Health & Safety procedures?
A.
Apart from being the responsible thing to do, not only is it good
for business and working relationships, ALL businesses
have a legal duty to comply with the Health
& Safety at Work Act 1974 and the regulations made
under it.

Q.
What am I required to do?
A.
All businesses are required to have Health & Safety policies
and procedures and to carry out risk assessments. Should you have
more than four persons employed in any capacity, these policies
need to be written and the procedures and assessments recorded.
Q.
What could happen if i don't comply?
A.
The Health & Safety at Work Act is a piece of criminal legislation,
as are the regulations made under it. Therefore it is a criminal
offence not to comply.
The
consequences can be far reaching for example.

Q.
So how do I do this?
A.
That depends on your activities and size of your operation.
For
example, a sole operator may be capable of implementing their
own Health & Safety strategy with minimal professional assistance,
whereas a national company would probably employ their own permenant
safety staff to do this. In most other circumstances there are
companies such as ourselves, who are called in as and when required.

I am still not sure about what I need, how can I find out?
